What is the WPML MCP server?
The WPML MCP server from AcrossAI lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and any other MCP client set post languages, link translations and check what each post already has on your WordPress site. It runs inside WordPress through the free Abilities Manager and MCP Manager plugins, and works through WPML itself — with no third-party relay in between.

What your AI can do with WPML
WPML decides which language every post is in and which posts are translations of each other. These abilities let an AI assistant assign languages, link translations and check what each post already has — through WPML’s own functions, so the language switcher and hreflang tags stay right.
Set a post’s language
Give any post or page its language, recorded exactly as WPML expects.
Link translations
Group posts in different languages as translations of one another.
See what exists
Get every translation of a post as language code → post ID.
Works through WPML
Uses WPML’s own language hooks and translation groups (trid), so WPML’s screens show the same result.
Troubleshooting
Translations not connecting? Three reasons it happens quietly.
Each of these leaves the translated post published while visitors and search engines never find it.
The post has no language
Posts created by an import or the REST API often have none. Set Post Language assigns it.
The posts aren’t linked
Two translations that aren’t grouped send the switcher to the home page. Link Post Translations connects them.
A language is missing from the group
Linking only two of three posts drops the third. Get Post Translations shows the whole group first.
Try asking
Paste one into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor once your site is connected.
“Set post 88 to French.”
“Make post 88 the French version of post 42.”
“Which translations does the About page have?”
“Is the pricing page translated into Spanish?”
“Assign German to the three drafts I just imported.”
“Link the English, French and Hindi versions of the Contact page.”
WPML + AI questions
Is there an MCP server for WPML?
Yes. AcrossAI turns your WordPress site into an MCP server with 3 dedicated WPML abilities, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or a local model can work with WPML directly. It’s free on WordPress.org.
Can ChatGPT or Claude manage WPML?
Yes, once your site is connected over MCP. Ask in plain English and your AI calls the WPML abilities on this page, with risky changes gated behind an explicit confirm.
Is the WPML integration free?
Yes. All of its abilities ship in Abilities Manager, which is free on WordPress.org.
Can the AI translate the text itself?
Your AI writes the translation; these abilities put it in the right place in WPML — setting the language and linking it to the original.
Does it work with both Polylang and WPML?
Yes. The same abilities detect which plugin is active and use it: Polylang’s functions or WPML’s language hooks.
Which AI assistants work with it?
Any MCP client: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Cursor, Claude Code, and local runtimes such as Ollama, LM Studio and Open WebUI.
Does my site data pass through AcrossAI’s servers?
No. Your WordPress site runs the MCP server and your AI client connects to it directly. There is no hosted gateway in the middle.
Is AcrossAI affiliated with WPML?
No. AcrossAI built and maintains this integration independently, using WPML’s public APIs.
